I really love chocolate! There is just something about Chocolate that cheers everyone up when someone offers them around or a client comes in with a box of chocolates just to say Thank You. The excitement from the staff is like no other kind I have seen. They tell everyone who comes into contact with them that one of our customers/clients brought us chocolates this morning to say thank you.

The smile on their face says it all and it makes for a happier day in the workplace. Just to know that someone cares enough to give them all a small reward for recognising a job well done.

I was always telling my staff to offer excellent customer service and to go above and beyond a customers expectation, to ensure the customers got the products they really wanted from the retail store I worked in. After a short period of time, instead of me having to say this is what I expected from the team, it became a natural everyday occurance. We would find products from other stores, if our store did not have the item in stock and get it sent to the customer or get the item to be picked up in store.

Now I know you would say, ” Well thats not special customer service” but at the time during the early 90′s this kind of customer service was only being thought about.

The staff in the retail store I managed worked consistently and did not even think about reward. It enabled our store to have repeat custom and left our customers feeling happy.

Then one day a phone call came from Head office:” We have sent you a parcel for you all.Please look out for it”.

All of us were excited and did not know what it would contain or why we had been sent this mysterious parcel. In due course the brown box arrived with Cadburys Chocolate logos all over it. One of our customers had been so impressed with the service, that they had asked Head office to recognise our excellent service. The excitement was unlike no other excitement I had ever seen, as the box was taken to the staff room and the contents of chocolates emptied onto the staff room table. It was amazing to see how everyone smiled for days and weeks after, as we told our story to our customers and thanked them for our reward.
